What Is Home Care?

5 min readFebruary 20, 2025

Home care is support delivered in a person's own home to help with the everyday activities of living. It is sometimes called non-medical home care or in-home care, and it is designed to help people remain at home safely, comfortably and independently.

A home caregiver can help with personal care such as bathing and dressing, daily activities, meal preparation, companionship, light housekeeping, errands, transportation and medication reminders. The services are tailored to what each person needs — from a few hours a week to more regular support.

Home care is not the same as home health care. Home health care is clinical and medical, delivered by licensed healthcare professionals and typically prescribed by a physician. Home care is supportive care for daily living, not medical treatment.

Who benefits from home care? Older adults who want to remain at home, people recovering from illness or surgery who need help with daily tasks, family caregivers who need respite, and anyone whose daily routines have become harder to manage alone.

For many families, home care is the bridge that lets a loved one stay in a familiar, cherished place while getting the support they need. CENNA Home Health Services provides this kind of individualized, non-medical in-home support for Fort Worth families.
